Help Wanted

Registration Department

The Registration Department dispenses badges to convention attendees, guests, and staff. To work Reg, you mainly sit at a table with a computer and a printer, look up names, check ID, print labels, carefully affix said labels onto appropriate badges, and cheerfully hand said badges to grateful conventioneers. You will be most attendees first point of contact with the convention, so if you enjoy meeting people, and like looking at aaaaaaaaall the costumes, Reg may very well be the department for you.

Attendee Services

Attendee Services provides help with information and general directional questions, interacting with the convention public. We are often the first real contact with attendees. We need 3 people to help us help our convention succeed!

Bilingual Japanese-English Interpreter & Liaison Volunteer

Interpreter-Liaison volunteer roles are a dual role traditional guest liaison responsibilities and Japanese interpretation. Help make ALA 2020 a unique and worthwhile event for our Japanese Guests of Honor (GOH). As a liaison, you will be tasked to guide and take care of the needs of ALA 2020’s Guests of Honor during their engagement at the convention. Further, as an interpreter, you will be in a unique and trusted position to guide our Japanese Guests of Honor. Please note, this role does not require you to interpret for our GOHs for speaking events.

Exhibit Hall Department Head

Position oversees the Exhibit Hall (dealers; artists; fan tables; etc.) at con.
Duties include recruiting staff for department work at con; overseeing checking in of dealers, artists, fan tables, others in exhibit hall. Must be available starting Weds morning of the con to supervise exhibit hall set up and load in.

E-Gaming

Staff will need to engage with con-goers to assist them with the processes of obtaining games in the room, guiding them through the ribbon process and patrolling the room to prevent any abuse of the convention’s equipment. Knowledge/love of video games is recommended (it is e-gaming after all).

E-gaming is open form Thursday – Sunday, and is open for most of each day.
