Join Anime Los Angeles’s Hall Cosplay Contest!
Calling all cosplayers! Are you proud of your latest cosplay creation? Are you interested in showing off your costume, but aren’t really sure about entering a big stage competition like ALA’s Masquerade? Do you think you put together something that’s just really dang cool? Then we’re looking for YOU!
ALA’s Hall Cosplay Contest is dedicated to celebrating all levels of cosplay crafting skill in the halls of the Long Beach Convention Center. There’s no stage, no performance element, and no pre-planning needed!
How To Enter
There are two ways to enter the Hall Cosplay Contest:
- Just wear your cosplay around the con!

- If you’re a registered attendee of the convention wearing something self-made – whether it’s a whole costume, a wig, a prop, or just a cool accessory – then just wear your costume to enjoy the con as you normally would!
- Our team of Roaming Judges have one mission for the event: to seek out cosplayers doing cool things with their crafting & give them Ribbon Awards.

- Come to our Office Hours!

- Each day of the convention we’ll have predetermined hours in our dedicated space where our Featured Judges will be ready to review your cosplay creations. There are no sign ups, just show up during the daily designated time slot.
- Day 1 (Thursday) – Day 3 (Saturday) our Featured Judges will be reviewing your costume items for a chance at one of our awards!
- Day 4 (Sunday) Our Featured Judges will be available for feedback on costume items, practice judging sessions, questions, and more!
- Con attendees who participate in Office Hours will be considered for both Ribbon Awards and our Overall Awards.
- Each day of the convention we’ll have predetermined hours in our dedicated space where our Featured Judges will be ready to review your cosplay creations. There are no sign ups, just show up during the daily designated time slot.

Thursday Day 1: 2pm – 6pm | Judging
Friday Day 2: 11am – 1pm; 3pm – 5pm | Judging
Saturday Day 3: 10am – 2pm | Judging
Sunday Day 4: 11am – 1pm | Feedback

Each winner will receive a special ALA rosette, front row seating at this year’s Masquerade, and will have the opportunity to walk the stage during the Masquerade half time show!

Featured Judges
Hylian Cream
Hylian Cream is a Sewing Educator & Cosplayer from Southern California. With over 14 years of cosplay under her belt, she has won numerous awards for her craftsmanship and on stage performances. She is a Janome educator, working with the company to showcase new & innovative crafting skills. And as a Sewing educator, she brings her hands on workshops and panels to conventions she attends to continue educating & inspiring cosplayers new and old. She’s excited to see the talented cosplayers stopping by the Hall Contest Booth at ALA!
LunarLyn
Lyn is an award winning cosplayer and self-taught sewist and maker from Arizona who loves the art and craftsmanship of cosplay. She has been cosplaying for 15 years and loves sharing her knowledge and excitement for her creative hobby. Some of her favorite fandoms to draw inspiration from include Sailor Moon, Nintendo, Disney, and the vast universe of Star Wars. Over the past decade her focus in cosplay has been the competition circuit. Her latest accolades include Best in Show at Phoenix Fan Fusion 2023 and the C2E2 Crown Championships of Cosplay Regional winner in 2024.
Steff von Schweetz
Steff Von Schweetz is a self-taught sewist and designer currently living in Las Vegas. Cosplaying since 2003, Steff has won multiple awards, been featured in film and magazines, and over the last seven years began to sew professionally for local performers and entertainers. Recently, Steff has been working with Arc System Works in their Creator Program to elevate cosplay within the fighting game community. They’re stoked to see everyone’s hard work in the Hall Costume Contest!
